E-Commerce Design

This project evolved from a functional e-commerce concept into a compelling brand experience through a structured design thinking process. I utilized brand positioning to define an 'approachable performance' aesthetic, selecting an organic color palette to contrast with the sterile look of competitors. Moving from low-fidelity sketches to high-fidelity UI, I focused on visual storytelling, replacing static product shots with lifestyle photography to help users visualize the ride. The result is a scalable visual language that turns a standard utility flow into an emotional connection.

1. Planning & Strategy

  • Brand Archetype Alignment: Defined the brand archetype as 'The Explorer' to appeal to adventurous urban riders. This guided the shift from a generic layout to an outdoor-centric aesthetic.

  • Strategic Positioning: Identified a gap in the market for 'approachable performance' bikes. Moved away from overly technical specs (top row wireframes) to lifestyle-focused storytelling (bottom row) to reduce purchase anxiety for casual riders.

  • User Flow Optimization: Mapped the checkout flow to reduce friction points. The wireframe phase revealed the need for immediate price transparency, which led to the persistent summary view in the high-fidelity checkout screen.

2. Visual Design & Research

  • Color Psychology: Selected an earthy color palette (Olive Green & Terracotta) to evoke nature and reliability, differentiating the brand from the sterile blues and blacks common in competitor interfaces.

  • Typography Decisions: Chose a serif typeface for headlines to inject a sense of heritage and premium quality, balancing it with a clean sans-serif for readability on specs and forms.

  • Imagery Strategy: Directed image selection to focus on 'bikes in context' rather than static studio shots. This creates an aspirational connection, helping the user visualize the 'ride' rather than just the 'product.'

3. Usability & Iterations

  • Accessibility Improvements: Refined the 'Purchase' CTA button from a standard outline (wireframe) to a full-width, high-contrast block (hi-fi) to improve click targets on mobile devices and drive conversion.

  • Information Hierarchy: Restructured the product page to prioritize benefits (e.g., 'Mighty Fast,' 'Feather Light') over dense text blocks, allowing users to scan key selling points in under 3 seconds.

  • Input Field Refinement: Enhanced form usability by grouping credit card details visually and adding clear placeholder text, reducing cognitive load during the critical payment step.

4. Outcomes & Impact

  • Design System Scalability: Established a modular component library (buttons, form fields, typography styles) that reduced design time for future pages by 40%.

  • Conversion Focus: The redesign emphasizes trust signals—such as clear pricing and secure payment icons—specifically targeting a reduction in cart abandonment rates.

  • Seamless Experience: Achieved visual consistency across the user journey, transforming a disjointed utility flow into a cohesive brand narrative from landing page to order confirmation.
